In this MICRO-episode… we’re digging into the strategy of creating what we call, an “EXPERIENCE LIST.”  This is for EVERYBODY… but especially with those folks who wrestle with writing down their dreams and goals.  And trust me… that’s a LOT of people.  Yes… we ALL know that writing down our goals is important and the studies have shown that.  BUT… for a lot of people… that feels intimidating and/or overwhelming.  Plus, it can cause an inner-wrestling match over whether something qualifies as a “big dream” or an “important goal” or whether it’s as cool as someone else’s dream or a “SMART goal.”  Well… screw that noise!  Nope… we’re going to use a different word to guide us.  Yup… we’re going to ask, “What are some EXPERIENCES… (big or small) I’d like to have in my lifetime?”  And with that… you’ll create your EXPERIENCE LIST.  Oh… and this is a MICRO-episode… because it’s less than 15 minutes!!!  So… let’s get to it!

MORE ABOUT THIS EPISODE:

I’m getting ready to take a couple of weeks off for our younger son's graduation in LA.  Melissa and I are heading out to celebrate with him and have some great “experiences” along the way!

Plus, we’ve set some specific time aside to create a NEW “Experience List.”

So I was inspired to share an idea with you!

BACKGROUND:

Recently at an event, someone approached me after my keynote.  It was a woman in her mid-thirties.  She looked smart, successful and put-together but she quickly admitted she was  wrestling with writing down any dreams and goals because she wasn't sure if her dreams were BIG enough and she wasn't sure their goals were SMART enough.

She was caught in something I call the “SMART Trap” because she wasn't sure if the ideas that were coming to her head were actually goals because she didn’t know if they were specific enough... or measurable... or realistic... or… you get the picture.  As a result…   she felt stuck.  And she was in the “COMPARISON Trap” because she was trying to compare the size and the validity of her dreams to others in the room.

Ever been there?  I sure have!

So, instead of her trying to come up with “Dreams” or “goals,” I suggested a different question.

Here’s the question:

What are some “experiences” you would like to have?

I’ve found that “EXPERIENCE” is a lower pressure word.

So instead of asking about your DREAMS or you GOALS, ask yourself about the kinds of experiences you’d like to have in your lifetime.

Because… experiences matter!

“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it.

To reach out eagerly and without fear

for new and richer experiences.”

- Eleanor Roosevelt

HOMEWORK:

  • STEP 1: Ask... what kind of experiences (big or small) would I like to have?
  • STEP 2: List at least 10

"I think we should count our age by number of life experiences we've had instead of years!”

- Unknown

Antonio Neves joins us BUT this time… we’re flipping the mics. That’s right!  Tony is interviewing Mitch about what he’s learned as he’s approaching 365 episodes of Dream Think Do!  It’s a fun, inspiring and eye-opening conversation because Tony is not only a bestselling author and speaker, it’s an award-winning journalist who has interviewed world leaders, celebrities and entrepreneurs from around the world.  Mitch didn’t know what questions were going to be asked (other than some awesome questions Dream Think Do listeners submitted when they heard about the interview).  Antonio went deep into the archives to draw out some great behind the scenes stories and powerful insights from Mitch.  Plus, the LAST question really surprised Mitch and brought some personal revelation that brought ALL the emotions.  So listen in and be ready to get inspired to climb YOUR mountains, define those important milestones in YOUR life… and find the right ways to stick with YOUR dreams!

REVIEWS:

Since we’re coming up on 365 Episodes… would you take this opportunity to leave a review on Apple Podcasts?  Click here and be taken to the show.

Simply give it an honest rating and… if you’re willing… a quick review.  Share something you’d want others to know about Mitch and the show!

Every review counts and each one helps us to reach more people!  That makes a BIG difference because… as you know… we want to help the world to dream bigger, think better and do more of what each person’s put on the planet to do!  So… THANKS!!!

YOUR QUESTIONS:

Now, we’d asked if DREAM THINK DOers wanted to submit any questions and you guys responded with some GREAT ones.

From those, Antonio and I chose the following questions:

“Ok, here we go. I love love love my podcast. In fact, I am creating a second and am a co-host on another. My question is, when there is momentum and excitement it is easy to keep on going. What happens when the juices dry up a bit? How do you get your mojo back?” - Gail Craft

“Over the time I have gotten to know you listening to your show, I would say (and I know many agree) that you are gifted with wisdom. What would you say has been a key to growing in wisdom for you that a younger dream think doer could implement?”

- Beth Medley

“People are constantly suggesting that I start a podcast, but the market is so saturated that I don’t think I have much value to add. What made you take the leap? Did you start by just interviewing friends and colleagues?” - Kim Harden

But other than these 3… I didn’t know the questions Antonio was going to ask.  So it felt like we were operating without a net.  BUT I trust Tony… so we went for it.  And it was a blast!

We talked about things like:

  • PERSISTENCE… and how to stick with something (even when you’re tired)
  • SURPRISES along the way… and some of the unexpected gifts of pursuing dreams
  • SETBACKS… because they’re going to come… and how do you get back up
  • FEAR… and how to overcome it in power but simple ways

But one of my favorite questions unearthed a story about some wisdom my bride Melissa offered me early on.  It’s something that helped me to set the course for my podcast but it’s also something that’s helped me live a happier and bolder life!  I can’t wait for you to hear THAT one.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

How about YOU!?  What stood out to you from Tony’s questions and the awesome questions from other DREAM THINK DO listeners?

More importantly… what’s something that stuck with you?

Also, let’s hear YOUR tips and strategies.  What’s something that works for YOU and/or what do YOU think works when it comes to sticking with a big goal?

And hey… what questions do YOU still have?  Comment and let me know!

And PLEASE share this special episode with someone who YOU think would appreciate it and/or might be needing it… right now!  They’ll thank you!

Know I’m rooting for you!

We’re talking with Ana Gabriel Mann and John David Mann.  Ana earned her degree in clinical psychology before going on to serve as an educator, therapist, corporate trainer, speaker, and coach. Her hubby is John is an award-winning author… who’s co-written more than 30 books! That list includes four New York Times bestsellers and five national bestsellers. I have to say that one of my absolute favorites was his His classic parable called The Go-Giver which he co-authored with Bob Burg who’s been on DREAM THINK DO twice! I’ve been wanting to have these two on the show for as long as I can remember!  Partly… because The Go-Giver helped to save my career a number of years ago.  And partly because this couple are a powerhouse!  I’m soooooooo happy to say that they’ve written a book together called “The Go-Giver Marriage” and it’s sooooooo good.  We’re going to talk about it and so much more… so let’s get to this!
