RESOURCES I POINT TO IN THE EPISODE:
I mention my interview with Sam Griffin when I’m talking about how bravery isn’t necessarily what you want to lean on when you experience fear. www.mitchmatthews.com/118
I also speak to a concept that Jim Collins spoke to in his classic book, Good to Great. It’s called the “Stockdale Paradox” and it’s something I’ve leaned on myself when I was stepping out and pursuing something new. But it’s also something I’ve taught countless leaders when I’ve discussed the importance of taking a stand for something you believe in and being willing to take a chance on a needed change. #priceless
Here’s an excerpt from Jim’s amazing book and his interview with POW survivor and entrepreneurial success story Jim Stockdale:
I didn’t say anything for many minutes, and we continued the slow walk toward the faculty club, Stockdale limping and arc-swinging his stiff leg that had never fully recovered from repeated torture. Finally, after about a hundred meters of silence, I asked, “Who didn’t make it out?”
“Oh, that’s easy,” he said. “The optimists.”
“The optimists? I don’t understand,” I said, now completely confused, given what he’d said a hundred meters earlier.
“The optimists. Oh, they were the ones who said, ‘We’re going to be out by Christmas.’ And Christmas would come, and Christmas would go. Then they’d say, ‘We’re going to be out by Easter.’ And Easter would come, and Easter would go. And then Thanksgiving, and then it would be Christmas again. And they died of a broken heart.”
Another long pause, and more walking.
Then he turned to me and said, “This is a very important lesson. You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end—which you can never afford to lose—with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.”
To this day, I carry a mental image of Stockdale admonishing the optimists: “We’re not getting out by Christmas; deal with it!”
Whew… yup! That’s gold.

Heather Monahan is my guest this week! Heather is a top keynote speaker and the Best Selling author of “Overcome Your Villans” and “Confidence Creator.” She’s also the host of the top-rated “Creating Confidence.” Heather has an incredible background as a salesperson and C-Suite Exec who got fired unexpectedly. She could have given up but she rolled the dice on herself and created her own business… and it’s been an amazing ride. This interview is a masterclass on selling your ideas and overcoming negative thinking and negative people. Plus, there are some fun back stories on how she got to interview Gary Vaynerchuk for her first episode of her podcast and how she got on the Steve Harvey show. If you’re needing some powerful and specific strategies to help you sell your ideas (and your products and services too) as well as shedding your self-limiting beliefs to live your best life!

Jamie Winship was an award-winning Metro DC police officer who went on to spend nearly 30 years living and working in some of the most dangerous conflict zones in the world. His unconventional efforts to bring about societal and racial reconciliation has led him to Indonesia, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Israel and now back to the United States. Jamie calls this unique approach to healing and breakthrough the “Identity Method.” He’s utilized it to connect people you’d never think would be open to working together. But he’s also used it to help professional sports teams, business leaders, government officials, non-profit organizations and many others. As you’ll hear in this incredible conversation… this simple process can be used to help bring people together… but just as importantly… individuals can utilize these steps to walk in more freedom, uncover more of their true identity… AND live with less fear… even in turbulent times. This one blew me away… and I think you’ll love it. So let’s get to it!

MORE ABOUT THE EPISODE:
Jamie Winship spent nearly 30 years living and working in conflict zones, and during that time he has learned an important truth: all human conflict originates from fear, and fear originates from a false view of God, ourselves, and others.
Until we exchange what's false for what's real, we will never experience being fully alive, fully human, and fully free. During our conversation… we dive deep into the Identity Exchange Method as Jamie tells an incredible story of how it played out (and brought healing) in a surprising way within a group of people most would say would NEVER work together!

Guys… I’m so excited to introduce you to my friend Joe Van Haecke. For over 20 years, Joe has studied, performed, and coached improv. Now… in addition to performing improv… he’s bringing what he calls the tenets of the “Yes/And” life to business people, educators, leaders… and heck… even lawyers! His training company helps people to be better communicators… better collaborators… and stronger leaders… all through the power and simplicity of improv strategies. And a recent experience over coffee with Joe, made me say… we’ve got to talk about this on DREAM THINK DO! So, let’s get to this!!!

I’ll be honest… I can totally see the power of these strategies… but the idea of performing LIVE scares the snots out of me. (But that probably means I need to do it sometime soon… right?)
How about it? What’s something that resonated with you?

Travis Crutcher is back as my guest… and THIS time we’re talking about how important the concept of “Personal Branding” needs to be to EVERYONE right now. No matter what you do for work… whether you own your own business or you work for someone else… personal brand matters. AND… let’s be real… personal brand… at least how we’re going to define it… matters in LIFE too. Now, we’re not talking about trying to be famous or to go all Cardasian. What we’re talking about is how do you present yourself to the world? And we’re going to talk about heart stuff… mental stuff… business strategy and life strategy and I think you’re going to dig it! Especially if you’re wanting to make an impact on the world in some small or big way. With your career… your business and… or… your life! And hey… if you’re listening to DREAM THINK DO… I know that’s true for you!
Now, I’m going to be talking with my friend Travis Crutcher for this episode. You may remember from episode 344… but Travis is a Success Coach and Speaker who helps dynamic people get clarity, increase impact, and live a life they love! He’s a Retired Army Ranger and he spent some time in the corporate space as an executive too. After all of that… he launched his coaching and speaking business and I’m VERY proud to say that he’s a key member of Acceleration… my mastermind for coaches and speakers. And that’s given me a front-row seat to see him applying the concepts we’re going to be talking about in his business and more importantly… he’s also using them to make the world a better place!
Oh… and make sure you listen to the very end… because even though my bride Melissa isn’t “officially” on this episode… I tell a story about her that Travis and I agreed… allowed her to steal the show! So yeah… stay with it! I think you’re going to dig it… so let’s dive in!
